My Beautiful Songbird (Prologue)

It was a normal (or as normal as it could get) day for the five
Gundam pilots. There were no missions for once, so the pilots had
spread out around the safe-house, each doing their own thing. Wufei
was in his room, reading, Quatre and Trowa were in the music room
practicing, Heero was on his laptop, and Duo was in his room
listening to his head-phones.

When suddenly, the vidphone in Heero's room came on. After he chatted
for a while with Sally, she told him her real reason for calling, and
his eyes grew as wide as saucers. Hands trembling slightly, he shut
off his laptop and vidphone, and went to the front door. There, he
picked up the bundle that had been laying there, and carried it
upstairs to Wufei's room.

Wufei was enjoying the feeling of being able to read his book in
peace, when there was a knock at his door. Annoyed, he opened the
door to find Heero, face a little pale, holding out a bundle of
blankets to him. Surprised, Wufei took the bundle and closed the
door, setting the pile on the bed. It seemed kinda heavy for just
some blankets, and it was kinda warm, but as he reached for the
opening to it, he found a note. It read:

Chang Wufei~

I have found something that should be very precious to you. This is
all you will have left of your clan, so treasure it. It will carry
the lessons you teach it now through out it's life.

Eyes widening, Wufei looked at the bundle, then at the note. It's
life? That meant it was alive....no it couldn't be...no way....it
couldn't be what he thought it was...

Hands trembling ever so slightly, he pulled back the top blanket to
find...

...a sleeping baby.

"AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

The pilot's heads all snapped up as they heard the scream from
Wufei's room. Quatre and Trowa dropped their instruments and ran for
the room, Heero slowly rose from where he was sitting, and, sighing,
began to make his way to the bedroom, while Duo dropped everything
and sprinted up the stairs. Once they all got to the room, they
almost fainted at what they saw. Well, Quatre did anyway.

Wufei was backed up against the wall, his face showing bewilderment
and shock, and on the bed was a wailing, crying baby. The poor thing
had been woken up from its peaceful sleep when Wufei had screamed.

"Holy shit, its a baby!" was the first comment out of all the pilots,
coming from Duo. Everyone, except Quatre who was passed out on the
floor, gave him a 'well duh' look, and looked back at the bed.

Trowa was the first to actually touch the wailing baby. The others
just sorta stood around it studying it. He picked it up, and the poor
thing wailed more, it's tiny face scrunched up in a scowl. After
jiggling it for a few seconds he passed it to Heero, who just stood
there, glaring down at the babe. The baby paused its crying, took one
look at Heero's scowling face, and wailed even louder.

Heero passed it to Quatre, who had woken up and had come up behind
him. Quatre held the baby carefully and tryed saying soothing words
to it. When that came to no avail, he passed it to Duo.

Duo tryed singing to the baby for a few minutes, and although its
screaming turned down a few notches to a low wail, it still didn't
stop crying. Finally, Duo turned to look at Wufei, and held out the
child.

Wufei looked at the baby then looked at Duo. "Oh no. There is no
way-hey!" Before he could finish, Duo thrust the baby into his arms
and stepped back. Wufei stood perfectly still looking down at the
child, his face frozen in unusual terror. Finally, he swallowed his
fear, and began to gently rock the child. After a few minutes of
hiccups and the occasional whimper, the little baby fell asleep.

The others watched in total shock, not believing their eyes. Finally,
Duo grinned. "Well, it looks like we found the new proud parent for
the kid."

"Oh hell no."
